Inspectors added marks to the yoke and grip frame sides, and the right grip panel interior is marked “686160.”
Barrel Length: 2.5
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade set on a ramped base on the serrated rib. The rear sight is a square notch leaf in a base that is micro-click adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition:The manufacturer fitted the revolver with two-piece checkered wood Magna stocks, topped with S&W medallions. Over time, handling caused one chip and one crack to form behind the trigger guard, while also smoothing the checkering slightly though leaving the grooves well-defined. Additionally, it added numerous signs of wear. Overall, the grips remain in good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition:This handgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. Although there are signs of holster wear, there is not much sign of use. Additionally, the turn line is noticeable, and there are some faint light scratches on the top strap and frame. However, there are no signs of corrosion, and the screw heads remain sharp. Furthermore, the markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in very good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action crisp. The cylinder produces no play in lockup on each of the six chambers with the trigger depressed. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Lewis Leather holster marked “POLICE SPECIAL”
Our Assessment: Introduced in 1955, the Model 19 revolver featured a K frame with a larger yoke area and initially a 4″ barrel. Designed as a “peace officer’s dream,” it included a shrouded ejector rod and adjustable sights. Later offered in 6″ and 2.5″ barrels, it became popular among U.S. Border Patrol and INS until replaced by semi-automatics. This 1960s blued, square-butt model with a 2.5″ barrel is ideal for home defense or concealed carry.
